Financial support PNRR Development Contracts (M1C2 – I 5.2): € 9,956,000.00
Brief description of the operation, including purpose and results:
the Greci development program covers the processing and marketing sector of processing tomatoes and is based on three main levers:
1)Innovation, digitization and development of existing processes (mainly tomato processing) by means of innovative evaporation technologies with “lower emissive impact” (see MVR evaporation technology).
2)Diversification of internal process steps. A new technology will be added to the existing complex process steps (blanching, sizing, refining, cutting, fractionated filling, mixing/emulsifying/blending, etc.): pre-drying and/or semi-drying carried out by continuous humidity-controlled hot air input with power from renewable sources.
3)Sustainability and energy efficiency: Attention to environmental sustainability and efficient management of energy sources will be central to business development, as well as continuously monitored and improved. First of all, a photovoltaic plant will be installed that will produce electricity in synergy with the MVR plants in the previous points. This will shift the energy balance from fossil energy sources (steam produced by methane gas combustion) to renewable and increasingly carbon neutral sources.
